Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How is Balanced Beauty's approach to facial rejuvenation and advanced skin care “holistic”?
The concept of holism, when applied to the human body, implies that our body is an organized, interconnected system. At Balanced Beauty, we apply this principle to the field of aesthetics when we evaluate your skin issues. Wrinkles, lines, dullness, sagging skin, and loss of tone are not just superficial skin problems related to aging; rather, they signal deeper imbalances such as inflammation, congestion, stagnation, poor circulation, and digestive system problems. Healthy, toned and radiant skin is an outward sign of a healthy body. Our system of facial rejuvenation, Acugems Facial Rejuve™, works to balance internal body systems that support renewal, creating inner balance and outer radiance.

  2. What is Acugems Facial Rejuve™?
Acugems Facial Rejuve™ is a holistic system of facial rejuvenation developed by a group of acupuncturists and estheticians. As a system, it delivers subtle electrical currents and colorlight waves to the surface of the skin via cotton-tipped probes. It also includes the use of tourmaline gemstones to enhance the treatment’s bioelectrical effects. This method of delivery functions to energize your skin’s natural systems of renewal to stimulate collagen and elastin production. It also works to re-educate your facial muscles by energizing the acupoints of the face and neck. Facial acupoints support the very body systems responsible for muscle tone and regeneration. It is very relaxing and there is no down time.

  3. What is microcurrent and why is it used in facial rejuvenation?
Microcurrent is a very subtle electric current (a millionth of an amp) that has been used in medicine for many years. Its chief use has been in wound healing. More recently, it has been applied to the beauty field with excellent results.

  4. Why should I try a skin peel?
Skin peels offer one of the most powerful non-surgical skin improvements available. It is a science-based treatment that works to remove damaged layers of cells from the skin’s outer surface. It utilizes a highly specialized acid and enzyme solutions to address cellular buildup, reducing pore size, fine lines and wrinkles and even clears blemishes by affecting oil production. The result is glowing, fresh skin with improved texture, hydration, and tone. We use Rhonda Allison’s Naturally Scientific line for our peels.
All the peels at Balanced Beauty are considered non-medical because they work on the outside layer of the skin only.

  5. Which skin peel is right for me?
Peels are available in three fundamental levels: Progressive, Mid-depth and Deep.
Progressive: The mildest peel treatment which refines the outer layer of skin and usually does not cause the skin to peel. Repeated treatments may cause mild exfoliation with light flaking.
Mid-depth: This level targets the intra-epidermal layer of the skin with light flaking 2-3 days post-treatment. It offers minimal to no down time.
Deep: The deepest intra-epidermal layers of the skin are affected by this treatment. Expect considerable peeling at this level. The typical recover period lasts 7-10 days. Deep peels restore and renew skin with dramatic results.

  6. Is there discomfort with peels?
Depending on the level of the peels, there is some discomfort following treatment which is usually very manageable. Experiences vary depending on the type of skin peel administered and the level of each individual’s pain tolerance. Most clients agree that the dramatic improvements are worth the temporary discomfort.

  7. What can I do about my rosacea?
Rosacea is actually an inflammatory skin disease which may cause facial redness, visible red capillary veins, burning, sensitive skin, stinging, and red gritty eyes. It can even cause the nose to become bulbous and disfigured. It is often misdiagnosed as adult acne, eczema, or allergy. Triggered by stress, heavy exercise, alcohol, sun, and certain skin care products, rosacea tends to worsen over time if not treated. There are three stages of rosacea.

    • In the first stage, an individual may experience flushed skin that is easily irritated by topical lotions, creams, and other skin products that may contain irritants.

    • In the second stage, the redness darkens and becomes more permanent. Blood vessels become dilated and pustules may begin to form.

    • In the third stage, you may experience the growth of excess fibrous tissue, enlarged pores, and persistent redness and dilated veins.

Your skin care professional can provide you with options to work with your skin type and recommend a regimen for healthier skin. We recommend Rhonda Allison’s Rosacea Serum and regular skin care and peels to improve and control rosacea.
